What can you expect from your Railtrail holiday?

Inclusive Rail Fares Railtrail’s UK tours are unique in that we offer tour fares inclusive of rail travel from any mainland rail station in the UK, along with seat reservations (where applicable) as part of the tour package. Departure stations are grouped into regions, as shown in the example below:

Your Tour Fare UK Tours – We offer packages including First Class (where available) or Standard Class rail travel from every mainland UK station for each UK tour. European Tours – Our European Tours depart from London St Pancras where you can join your Tour Manager and enjoy a complimentary welcome drink and snack prior to boarding.You may choose to include the added comfort of the exclusive carriages and refreshments with Eurostar Plus. Worldwide Tours – After meeting your Tour Manager at our chosen flight check-in desk and passing through customs control, we have quality relaxation time with a complimentary welcome drink and snack before boarding. Flight upgrades are available on request, or you may wish to book the Ground Only fare to travel independently and join at the tour hotel. Tour Base Fare – For clients wishing to travel independently of our rail package to the tour of their choice, we offer flexible joining point fares for all tours including the option to join and leave at the tour hotel(s). Leisurely Tour – A relaxing tour with minimal physical activity plus downtime to wander and discover at your own pace. Moderate Tour – An engaging tour with moderate physical activity with walking, occasional steps, and activities on most days.

Active Tour – An energetic tour with physical activities and adventures on most days which could include longer walks, challenging steps, and hills. Meet The Team

Office Team Our Founder, Owner, and Managing Director, Dave Felstead , is still at the helm of the company and his firm belief in customer satisfaction and experience means that Railtrail provides an individual and personal experience to all our customers. Dave’s small, family run company ethos is at the heart of the Railtrail Team. The family connection runs to Dave’s children, Paul , who has joined the company as Operations Manager after a long career in the RAF, and Julie , who occupies a key role in our Delivery Team. Paul’s daughter, and Dave’s granddaughter, Megan , is the most recent family member to join Team Railtrail in our Ticketing Team. Our husband-and-wife team, Mark and Rachel have, for some years, been an essential backbone of the company working in senior roles with Mark keeping our website and analytics up to date whilst Rachel is possibly one of the most popular members of the team in charge of the finances and paying the salaries! The first voice you hear when contacting Railtrail is usually Marie or Phil , our excellent Customer Care Team. Their in-depth knowledge of our tours enables them to provide friendly, helpful advice, going above and beyond to provide an individual experience for our clients. Our fantastic Product Design Team sees Ellie , Summer , Les , and Ulrich using their destination knowledge and imagination to create and coordinate all our vibrant and varied tours contracting key elements. Our resident ‘rail enthusiast’ is Henry who, in addition to creating some of our specialist tours, acts as aTour Manager and brings his passion and knowledge of steam directly to our clients. Heading up our Ticketing Team is Carla , working alongside Megan , to organise your domestic and international rail journeys and seat reservations. Their knowledge and experience ensure that you are travelling on the most suitable route available – this is the team that keeps you on track! Working alongside Julie in our Delivery Team are Gail and Esther who bring our tours to life, contracting attractions and other suppliers, and diligently putting the final touches to your tour itinerary to ensure you have the best possible experience on your holiday. Looking after our marketing and social media channels is Bethany, alongside compiling, collating, and transferring into print all the above

DAY 1 Travelling by Eurostar from London St Pancras to Paris, then onwards to Hergiswil and our hotel for seven nights, the Seehotel Pilatus, where we check in and enjoy our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 The first of our spectacular excursions features one of Switzerland’s most scenic railways, the former GoldenPass Line from Lucerne journeying along the shores of crystal-clear lakes, past beautiful waterfalls, and over the magnificent Brünig Pass to Interlaken. Here, we climb up to the pretty Swiss mountain village of Grindelwald , nestled at the foot of the Eiger’s north face, where we enjoy free time before we return to Hergiswil in time for our evening meal. (B,D) DAY 3 After breakfast this morning, we board the Snow Express train leaving the shores of Lake Lucerne and heading into the Engelberg Valley through delightful villages nestling at the foot of increasingly steep and lofty mountains. From Engelberg we ascend Mount Titlis on the world’s first revolving cable car – the ‘Titlis Rotair ’. The cable car completes one full 360° rotation during its ascent providing breathtakingly beautiful panoramas as you soar to the mountain station at an altitude of just under 3,000 metres above sea level. (B,D) DAY 4 Today, we head out on the Schöllenen Railway line south towards the Gotthard and onwards to Oberalppass where we experience a taste of the Glacier Express route from the highest point on the line with views of a snow-covered wonderland with stunning peaks through to Andermatt. After free time in this beautiful Swiss mountain village,

we return to Hergiswil in time for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 5 After breakfast today, we will experience the historic Rigi Railway , Europe’s first mountain railway transporting visitors from all over the world to the top of the ‘Queen of the Mountains’ since 1871. The Rigi’s unique location and panoramic views made it a famous destination for writers and heads of state during the ‘Belle Époque’ era, and even Queen Victoria journeyed to the peak. (B,D) DAY 6 Our excursion today takes us on the Voralpen Express departing from Lake Lucerne and passing Lake Zug and expansive landscapes, before beginning its ascent through snowbound Rothenthurm High Moor en route to Einsiedeln . Since the Middle Ages Einsiedeln, with its baroque monastery and Black Madonna, has been one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Europe. Afterwards, we retrace our steps to Hergiswil in time for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 7 We will spend today at leisure in Hergiswil giving us the opportunity to relax and unwind by the lovely Lake Lucerne and maybe taking full advantage of the ample leisure facilities offered by the hotel. Alternatively, you can use your local transport pass to visit Lucerne itself including the famous Chapel Bridge and Water Tower, historic churches, and Museum of Transport before we reconvene for our final evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 8 We bid farewell to Hergiswil and to Switzerland, returning by rail to Paris, where we will join the Eurostar service to London St Pancras. (B)

DAY 1 Travelling by Eurostar from London St Pancras to Brussels, then onwards to Wuppertal for our overnight stay at the Spark by Hilton Hotel where we check in and enjoy our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 Today, we journey on the unique ‘Schwebebahn’ suspended monorail – Wuppertal’s landmark – dating from the early 1900’s and floating high above the River Wupper covering 20 stations (only 4 of which run above solid ground!). Afterwards, we will rejoin the German rail network continuing to Wernigerode , the capital of the Harz region, and our hotel for five nights, the HKK Hotel, where we check in and enjoy our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 3 After breakfast this morning, we journey by rail to the historic and charming town of Goslar, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site boasting more than 1,500 exceptionally well-preserved half-timbered buildings. We enjoy a guided walking tour learning of the 1,000-year history and discovering the many crooked, cobble stoned streets in the gorgeous Old Town with its fascinating atmosphere of liveliness coupled with peacefulness before returning to Wernigerode in time for our evening meal. (B,D) DAY 4 Today, we journey to our second UNESCO World Heritage Site at Quedlinburg which is widely considered one of the best examples of a medieval town and the Collegiate Church, which overlooks the town, is a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture. We enjoy our lunch in Quedlinburg before taking the narrow-gauge

Selketalbahn through the romantic Selke Valley and wintry forests to Alexisbad where we enjoy time to explore before retracing our steps to Wernigerode. (B,L,D) DAY 5 This morning, we enjoy an exhilarating ride aboard the Brockenbahn , a steam-hauled journey from Wernigerode through wintry landscapes up to the highest peak of the Harz region. At 1,125m altitude, Brocken Station is the highest narrow-gauge station in Germany and offers a breathtaking panorama of the Harz National Park. We enjoy these beautiful views from the warmth of the restaurant before returning toWernigerode in time for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 6 After breakfast, we enjoy the day at leisure in Wernigerode and have the chance to explore this pleasant Harz town, affectionately referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Harz’, with its attractive market square and picturesque town hall. We can stroll around this quaint town with its timber-framed houses or take a trip up the hill to Wernigerode Castle, a stunning and romantic castle in the baroque style of architecture. A fond favourite of the Railtrail Tour Managers is Bar Altora, located near to the railway station, which has a miniature railway that delivers your drink to your table… a perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon! (B,D) DAY 7 We bid farewell to Wernigerode and to Germany, returning by rail to Brussels, where we will join the Eurostar service to London St Pancras. DAY 1 Journey from your home station to Perth and, on arrival, we will make our way to the Royal George Hotel, our hotel for the next five nights. We enjoy free time to explore our new surroundings before meeting for our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 After breakfast today, we head northwards to explore the beautiful Trossachs Range by coach, and we enjoy a scenic cruise on Loch Katrine on board the ‘Lady of the Lake’, named after the famous poem by Sir Walter Scott. Following the cruise, we enjoy free time in the charming town of Callander , perfect for a stroll or a spot of lunch. This afternoon, we visit Deanston Distillery for a guided tour to uncover the fascinating history of the site and learn about the craftsmanship behind their whisky before finishing with a dram or two of their superb whisky. (B,D) DAY 3 One of Scotland’s great rail journeys awaits us today as we head north into the Cairngorms , passing dense forests and wild moors, flanked by the Grampians, on our way to the mountain resort of Aviemore . Here, we enjoy a return steam excursion from Aviemore to Broomhill on the preserved section of the Highland Line known as the Strathspey Railway passing through woods and alongside the meandering River Spey on a nostalgic journey. We enjoy free time in the charming town of Aviemore before returning to Perth by rail in time for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 4 This morning, we travel by private coach to Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway for a return journey

along this scenic line past waterfalls, through woodlands, and over the Avon Viaduct. Whilst here we will visit the Museum of Scottish Railways , Scotland’s largest railway museum, which illustrates the history of railways in Scotland through fascinating displays. Afterwards, we continue to the Bridge of Allan Brewery where we are joined by one of their guides for a unique presentation of the brewery learning the secrets of their brewing techniques before sampling their wonderful ales. (B,D) DAY 5 After breakfast this morning, we transfer to Stirling and enjoy some free time before visiting the stunning Stirling Castle , one of Scotland’s greatest castles and the childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots. We will explore the beautifully recreated exhibitions and stunning architecture and soak in the castle’s rich history. Following our visit, we travel to The Kelpies for a tour of these magnificent equine sculptures discovering the intricate details, complexity, and engineering that created these fantastic pieces of art. Finally, we will transfer to the nearby Falkirk Wheel , an incredible feat of engineering and design where we experience a ride on the world’s only rotating boat lift being lifted 35 metres to sail through the sky before returning to Perth for our final evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 6 After breakfast, we bid farewell to Perth and make our way to the station for our homeward journeys. DAY 1 Journey from your home station to Glasgow and, on arrival, we board our private coach for a stunningly picturesque journey onwards along the length of Loch Lomond and climbing high through Glen Falloch into Crianlarich. From here, the trees are left behind as we climb to the Bridge of Orchy and continue through the infamous Glencoe with spectacular coastal views as we arrive in Fort William and the Alexandra Hotel, our hotel for the next three nights, where we check in and enjoy our evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 After breakfast this morning, we enjoy a cruise on Loch Linnhe , a scenic loch with an abundance of wildlife such as seals, porpoises, otters, and perhaps a golden eagle. On our return to Fort William, we have some free time to take lunch and explore the quaint shops before we take a tour of the fascinating Ben Nevis Distillery . We will learn about the vibrant history of one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland concluding with a tasting of their whisky and, afterwards, we will soar skyward in the Nevis Range Gondola on a scenic ride to experience stunning panoramic views of the Highlands and Ben Nevis itself before returning to the hotel in time for our evening meal. Today, our adventure continues aboard the magnificent Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig journeying over the impressive Glenfinnan Viaduct, capturing the views of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s monument, Loch Shiel, and Loch Eilt. There is time to explore the picturesque harbour town of Mallaig , with its majestic views across to the Isle of Skye, before we return to Fort William for our final evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 4 After breakfast, we bid farewell to Fort William and travel by train along the stunning West Highland route journeying past Ben Nevis, through Monessie Gorge, and over the wild and remote Rannoch Moor. This is an incredibly beautiful and leisurely journey with wonderful views of this remote and uninhabited countryside back through Crianlarich to Glasgow in time for our homeward journeys. DAY 1 Journey from your home station to Harrogate and, on arrival, we will make our way to the Crowne Plaza Hotel, our hotel for the next four nights. We enjoy free time to explore our new surroundings before meeting for our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 Today, we travel by train to visit the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway , a unique 5-mile branch line railway set in the heart of Yorkshire where you can ride to your heart’s content with your day rover ticket. Journey through countryside made familiar through film, The Railway Children, or perhaps take a break to alight at the Brontë heritage town of Haworth with its cobbled main street and curio shops. (B) DAY 3 After breakfast this morning, we board our private coach and travel the short distance to RHS Harlow Carr Gardens where we enjoy a guided tour, take a walk along the colourful streamside

plantings, admire the lavish herbaceous borders and wildflower meadows, and relax in the sweet-scented garden. Afterwards, we return to Harrogate and have the rest of the day at leisure, you may wish to relax at the hotel, explore this beautiful spa town, or indulge in an afternoon tea at Bettys Tearoom. (B) DAY 4 Today, we visit the Wensleydale Railway for our return journey through spectacular scenery to the meticulously restored Leeming Bar Station, home to the staff offices and engine shed where the locomotives and rolling stock are maintained and restored. This afternoon, we transfer to Thirsk , the birthplace of renowned author James Herriot and the fictional town of Darrowby. Here, we visit the World of James Herriot Museum , a unique and immersive experience where we can explore the TV set of ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ and ‘The Yorkshire Vet’ before returning to Harrogate for our final evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 3 After breakfast today, we enjoy a guided tour of the ‘Granite City’ of Aberdeen where we will visit the highlights of the city including the castellated Citadel at The Castlegate and the striking gothic Marischal College followed by free time to explore further.This afternoon, we enjoy a 1-hour harbour and dolphin cruise with a fascinating talk on the history of the port before sailing into Aberdeen Bay to spot dolphins and wildlife. (B,D) DAY 4 This morning, we travel by private coach to the Lochton of Leys Farmhouse, the home of Aberdeenshire Highland Beef , where we meet and learn about the herd of pedigree Highland cattle on an exclusive tour followed by tea/coffee served with shortbread. We then continue to nearby Crathes Castle where turrets, gargoyles, and the ancient Horn of Leys are just a few of the fascinating features we discover at this classic Scottish tower house. Following our visit, we make our way to the Royal Deeside Railway , unique in having served all British Monarchs from Queen

Victoria to King Charles III, and we board our train for a two-mile journey before returning to our hotel in time for our evening meal. (B,LR,D) DAY 5 After breakfast, we enjoy magnificent views as we travel to Montrose to visit the Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre , the first operational military airfield in Great Britain, dedicated to aviation history dating back over 100 years. Following our visit, we continue to the Caledonian Railway for a return journey along the four-mile branch line to the countryside stop of Bridge of Dun and, after our fascinating day of heritage, we continue our journey to Dundee and arrive at our hotel for the next three nights, the Malmaison Hotel. (B,D) DAY 6 Today, we enjoy a day at leisure in Dundee and we can visit the impressiveV&A museum, discover maritime history at Discovery Point, explore the McManus Art Gallery & Museum, make use of the Dundee hop-on/hop-off bus, or stroll the waterfront before reconvening for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 7 After breakfast, this morning, we journey by private coach to Glamis Castle and enjoy a guided tour to learn the rich history of the castle, the legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother. DAY 1 Journey from your home station via rail and ferry to Douglas on the Isle of Man and, on arrival, we will make our way to the Empress Hotel, our hotel for the next four nights.We enjoy free time to explore our new surroundings or stroll along the seafront before meeting for our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 Today, we enjoy a ride behind steam on the magnificent Isle of Man Railway , the longest narrow-gauge steam line in Britain to still use original carriages. We journey to Port Erin with time to view the excellent refurbished railway sheds, steam trains, and carriages at the neighbouring Railway Museum before returning by steam train to Castletown. Here, we visit Castle Rushen , one of Europe’s most finely preserved medieval fortresses plus the fascinating Old House of Keys , the former meeting place of the Isle of Man Parliament, where you may even have the chance to join a debate in the chamber. Alternatively, you can enjoy a full day of steam alighting at whichever stations you wish to explore before reconvening for our evening meal together. (B,D) DAY 3 After breakfast, we begin a great day of heritage boarding the Manx Electric Railway to Laxey where we have a steaming on the mines railway and visit Lady Isabella – the Great Wheel of Laxey . Afterwards, we depart Laxey by tram to Ramsey where we enjoy free time to take lunch and stroll around the pier and harbour before returning by electric railway and horse-drawn tram to Douglas. Alternatively, you can use your travel pass to take a bus from Ramsey to Peel to explore the island’s main fishing port and Peel Cathedral. (B,D)

DAY 4 This morning, we travel by tram to Laxey and transfer to the electric Snaefell Mountain Railway for our journey to the top of the island’s highest peak, Snaefell at 2,036ft, where breathtaking views await. After a lunchtime break, we return to Laxey and continue by tram to Groudle* for a steam train journey on the narrow-gauge Groudle Glen Railway to the cliff tops of Sea Lion Rocks. We return to Douglas and can visit the Manx Museum , bursting with artefacts unique to the Isle of Man from Viking treasures to the world famous TT races, before returning to the hotel for our final evening meal together. (B,D) *In April, we do not visit Groudle Glen Railway before returning to Douglas. DAY 5 After breakfast, we bid farewell to the Isle of Man and board our ferry to Heysham for our homeward journeys.
