DAY 1 Journey from your home station to York and, on arrival, we will make our way to the Malmaison Hotel, our base for the next six nights.We enjoy free time to explore our new surroundings before meeting for our first evening meal together. (D) DAY 2 After breakfast this morning, we will be met in reception by our private guide, and we will embark on a fascinating guided walking tour of the city after which there will be free time to explore this vibrant city further. You can stroll through the medieval cobbled lanes in the iconic Shambles, visit the magnificent York Minster, indulge at Betty’s Tearoom, shop at one of the many unique independent shops, or walk the ancient Roman city walls before reconvening for evening meal. (B,D) DAY 3 This morning, we travel by coach to Harewood House , one of the Treasure Houses of England, where we can see all the attractions including exhibitions of contemporary art, astounding collections of paintings, furniture, and ceramics plus over 100 acres of exquisite gardens to explore. Following our fascinating visit, we continue to the RHS Harlow Carr Gardens where we can take a walk along the colourful streamside plantings, admire the lavish herbaceous borders and wildflower meadows, and relax in the sweet-scented garden before returning toYork in time for our evening meal. DAY 4 Today, we experience two historic journeys in the heart of theYorkshire Dales. Firstly, we head to Skipton and sail through beautiful countryside on a one-hour canal boat trip along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Britian’s longest at 127 miles, enjoying an informative and entertaining commentary of Skipton, the canals, and the local wildlife. We have free time for lunch in the characterful market town of Skipton before visiting the lovingly restored Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway for our one-hour round trip through stunning Yorkshire scenery along the former Skipton-Ilkley Line, which was built in 1888. (B,D) DAY 5 After a leisurely breakfast, we make our way to the station and travel to Harrogate for a private guided walking, food tour of the city . We will walk around the cultural and historical town centre indulging in the vibrant food with fabulous tastings and, afterwards, there will be time at leisure to explore Harrogate . Stoll amidst the vast green spaces, admire the magnificent buildings, visit the Turkish Baths, and discover the myriad of independent shops and cafés before we return to York for our evening meal. (B,LR,D) DAY 6 day, we will transfer by coach to Pickering where we board the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a stunningly diverse journey in heritage carriages to the coast. Steaming across heather moorland landscapes, we pass by Goathland Station which featured as Aidensfield in Heartbeat, before descending to Whitby , a picturesque fishing port framed by its famous abbey. Stroll the quirky, narrow streets in search of Whitby Jet, climb the steps to reach the abbey, or simply enjoy some of the finest fish and chips inYorkshire before we make the return journey. (B,D) DAY 7 After breakfast, we bid farewell to York and make our way to the station for our homeward journeys.
