The tour takes place in late September, a great time to experience the landscape in breath-taking autumn colours and enjoy free time in the fabulous cities of Boston, New York and Washington. DAY 1 We depart from Heathrow late morning on our British Airways flight to Boston . On arrival we transfer to our nearby hotel the Hampton Inn Boston Logan Airport, our base for the next two nights. DAY 2 Today we have free time to explore the fabulous city of Boston independently. Our experienced tour manager can advise on the many options available including the hop-on / hop-off Beantown Trolley , many microbrewery pubs, the 2½ mile “freedom trail” walk around the heart of the historic former colonial city including Faneuil Hall, Paul Revere House and the USS Constitution or alternatively we can take the train to seaside town of Rockport. (Please note attractions are not included) . DAY 3 This morning we take the Amtrak train along the coast to Old Saybrook. On arrival we meet our coach and transfer the short distance to the historic 1892 Essex station for a narrated round trip by steam through the quintessential New England towns of Deep River and Chester in first class vintage carriages . At Deep River we are escorted onto the Becky Thatcher river boat for a 75-minute cruise along the Connecticut River before our return trip back to Essex station. Following our excellent trip, we travel by private coach to New York for two nights stay at the Holiday Inn Express Midtown West. (B) DAY 4 Today we enjoy a free day to explore the Big Apple ; our tour manager is available to advise the many available options including walking to Times Square , the hop-on hop-off bus, the free Staten Island Ferry, Transit Museum housed in an old subway station, iconic Grand Central Station, Central Park and the lift to the top of the Empire State Building . (Please note attractions are not included) . (B) DAY 5 We travel by private coach this morning to Phillipsburg New Jersey where we board the Delaware River Railroad for a 90-minute ride in 1950’s restored carriages along the scenic Delaware River behind a Chinese steam locomotive SY 2-8-2 No.142 . In the afternoon we continue by coach to Strasburg for two nights stay at the Fulton Steamboat Inn, built to resemble a paddle steamer . (B) DAY 6 Today we take a trip on America’s oldest operating railroad , the Strasburg Railroad dating back to 1832. We take a steam hauled ride through the tranquil Amish Country and enjoy a guided tour of the

restoration workshop. We also visit the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum that houses a world-class collection of locomotives and carriages. (B) DAY 7 This morning we travel by coach to the B & O Museum in Baltimore. The museum is housed in the historic Mount Clare Roundhouse and some of the very earliest locomotives in America are preserved here. During our visit we also have a special guided tour of the restoration workshop . Following our fascinating day of rail heritage, we continue by road to Cumberland for two nights and stay at the Ramada Inn where many of the rooms overlook the railway line. (B) DAY 8 We take a short walk from our hotel to the station for a full day scenic steam excursion through the Allegheny Mountains over the steeply graded Western Maryland Railroad to Frostburg . We travel behind the huge recently restored C&O 2-6-6-2 No.1309 and along the way discover breath-taking views of
