DAY 5 This morning, we travel by rail to Putbus on Rügen Island for a return ride over Rasender Roland (or Raging Roland as it is affectionately known), a 24km long, steam-powered, narrow-gauge railway which began operations in 1985. This idyllic light railway runs daily, and we will enjoy a nostalgic journey from Putbus to Göhren and return. (B) DAY 6 Today, we depart Rostock and travel by train to Bremen and, on arrival, we transfer to the InterCity Hotel for our three-night stay. There is time at leisure to explore our new surroundings or relax at the hotel before our evening meal together at a local restaurant. (B,D) DAY 7 After breakfast this morning, we travel from Bremen to Delmenhorst to visit the historic Jan Harpstedt Railway. We journey along the scenic 22km line through the wooded area of the Wildeshauser Geest Nature Park passing 8 rural stations before arriving at the terminus in Harpstedt. (B) DAY 8 Today, we visit Germany’s first heritage railway at Bruchhausen-Vilsen which has been in operation since 1966 and we enjoy a nostalgic journey on this narrow gauge railway through charming countryside. Afterwards, we visit the Kleinbahn Museum to explore its unique collection of locomotives and railcars. (B)
