R AIL & N ATURAL W ONDERS OF A LASKA Alaska is rugged and wild with glaciers, countless rivers and lakes, majestic mountain peaks, some active volcanoes, and nearly 34,000 miles of tidal shoreline. This tour is designed to cover all the fascinating railways in Alaska including the legendary Alaska Railroad and the White Pass & Yukon Railroad. Along the way, in addition to amazing scenery, we should see some extraordinary wildlife including bears, eagles and whales. DAY 1

Fjords catamaran tour for a few hours and hope for some really close encounters with the local wildlife! (B,L,D) DAY 7 This morning, we fly with Alaska Airlines from Anchorage to Juneau, the Alaskan capital city, where we enjoy an evening at leisure. DAY 8 Today, we take the Alaska Marine Highway sailing from Juneau to Skagway which will allow great views of this beautiful part of the world and gives us a mid-day arrival in Skagway with the remainder of the day at leisure. DAY 9 Today is a free day to explore or just relax in the wonderful frontier town of Skagway. (B) DAY 10 Today we ride the exciting Skagway-Fraser Steam Train. Climbing terrific grades up towards the Summit and beyond into Canada where we will turn on the loop just south of Fraser Station for the awesome decent back into Skagway. (B) DAY 11 Today, we ride the full length of the railway from Skagway following a series of lakes to Carcross, with a packed lunch served on board. On arrival, we will have time for an ice cream in Canada before the return journey to Skagway. (B,L) DAY 12 Today is a free morning in Skagway before the mid-day train to Fraser connecting onwards to Whitehorse for our overnight stay. (B) DAY 13 Today, we transfer to Whitehorse airport for our return flights back home, via Vancouver. This tour is operated by our friends at PTG Tours in conjunction with Railtrail.

Various flight options from the UK for the flight to Vancouver where we will stay in a hotel near the airport. There is an option to join the tour tomorrow in Seattle or Fairbanks. DAY 2 It’s an early start to catch the Amtrak Cascades train for a scenic journey to Seattle and, on arrival, we transfer to the airport for our flight north to Fairbanks. We make our way to the hotel for our two-night stay. DAY 3 Today is a free day for acclimatisation and your own exploration of Fairbanks. You may like to visit the Pioneer Park or ride the narrow-gauge Tanana Valley Railroad. DAY 4 We have a morning departure on the Denali Star, the premier train of the Alaska Railroad, travelling south to Anchorage. We enjoy this tremendous journey in the luxury of ‘GoldStar’ accommodation. (B,L,D) DAY 5 Today, we experience the “Glacier Discovery” stopping at Spencer Glacier along the way. Here, we have the option to follow gravel path to the edge of Spencer Lake for a spectacular view or to stay on the train a bit further to Grandview which many consider to be the most scenic stretch of track. The return journey is via a stop at Whittier to allow a look around this small town with time for fish and chips even! DAY 6 Today, we make a round trip to Seward on the “Coastal Classic”, a local favourite that winds through a stretch of wilderness. On arrival, we have the option to join a Major Marine / Kenai
