Touring the UK by Rail 2019

Welcome Nearly 40 years ago a young Michael Palin travelled by train on his first ‘Great Railway Journeys of the World’ TV series from London to the Kyle of Lochalsh, and fired my imagination to do the same. From that fabulous journey came my inspiration to launch “Railtrail”, with a commitment that a Railtrail tour should be much more than just a rail journey and would include quality hotels, good food, exciting excursions and wonderful attractions in the company of a friendly and experienced Tour Manager – a complete holiday package, all included in the tour fare with no hidden extra costs .

In today’s increasingly competitive world Railtrail upholds these principles, along with our commitment to traditional values and to providing the very best Customer Service.

We know this is very much appreciated by our clients. It is also no coincidence that each time we ask new enquirers “Where did you first discover Railtrail Tours?” the top answer is still “A friend recommended you”. Our original Classic UK Tours , for which Railtrail has become renowned, include many of the Great British Railway Journeys featured in that other now long-running TV series. Our new Roses Steam tour features the best of steam from both sides of the Pennines and there’s an even bigger version with our Roses Battle by Steam . We also include two brand new Scottish tours in Lord of the Isles and Arran & Bute – Scotland in Miniature . Finally, our brand new Grand Tour by Rail takes in Wales from Coast to Coast , picking off heritage railways as we head from Tenby to Llandudno.
