As much as we love high-speed rail travel here at Railtrail, sometimes it’s worth taking a little longer to enjoy the experience. In this brochure we are pleased to offer you not only the excitement of high-speed trains, but also some of the incredibly scenic journeys that the express routes left behind. This year’s European section has familiar faces and intriguing newcomers. We have added steam to the south of France on St Tropez, Monte Carlo & the Train des Pignes and The Hungaria is our nod to the nostalgia of international rail travel, the famous EuroCity service transporting us in style from Berlin to Prague to Budapest. Finally, Cantabria, Madrid & La Rioja uncovers Spain’s ‘Green Coast’, capital city and famous wine region on a European tour uniquely bookable from your local station. Our Grand Tours by Rail are completely unique itineraries, limited edition, one departure only and relatively small group sizes, which means that they fill quickly. After the success of Norway’s Majestic Fjords & Steam , we have added Swedish Steam & Hanseatic Heritage , a sensational journey through Northern Germany and Sweden by train and boat. And our Grand Tour of Europe by EuroCity follows three famous international routes through Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria and Switzerland on one tour!

And, finally, back to my initial point, our brand new Vive la Différence tour eschews the high-speed TGV, taking the traditional, scenic route to the Massif Central, then a triangular tour of viaducts, vineyards and verdant valleys, plus a plethora of heritage railways. I’m proud to say that our tours aren’t formed on a production line; that’s why it’s so interesting here at Railtrail. Vive la Différence!
