DAY 6 Our adventure on the Inlandsbanan tourist train begins, travelling through Jämtland and entering Lapland. In Vilhelmina we enjoy lunch overlooking snow-covered Lake Volgsjön. We take dinner during a stop in Arvidsjaur before arriving in the ski resort of Kåbaldis for four nights. We have booked ten cabins for double occupancy. Each cottage has a sauna, wc, shower and kitchen. (B,L,D) DAY 7 Today we get a true winter experience with a whole day’s visit to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi. Each year a hotel is sculpted here out of ice. We take lunch in its renowned restaurant, housed in the adjacent permanent (and warm!) part of the hotel, before touring the Ice Hotel, the church and, of course, the Ice Bar. (B,L) DAY 8 Reboarding the Inlandsbanan train, we make a short stop at the Arctic Circle, before adventuring beyond to Jokkmokk. Here we visit Jokkmokk Tenn (pewter/tin handcrafts) and the Swedish Mountain & Sami Museum for an insight into Sami culture. The day ends with the grand opening ceremony of the 414th Jokkmokk Winter Market, before we board our Inlandsbanan train back to Kåbaldis. (B) DAY 9 We return to Jokkmokk for the centuries old Sami Winter Fair in Jokkmokk, with music, exhibitions, shopping for handicrafts, reindeer and huskies pulling sleds on Lake Talvatis, with local Sami culture taking centre stage. (B) DAY 10 Our Inlandsbanan journey returns southwards, halting for a final night at the Hotell Vilhelmina, where we enjoy dinner. Maybe make use of the hotel’s spa facilities, with spectacular views of the Blaikfjället mountains and Lake Volgsjön. (B,D) DAY 11-12 The final threehour legof our Inlandsbanan adventure reaches Östersund, from

14 DAYS

where we travel by train to Uppsala and three nights at the Elite Hotel. A free day on Day 12 enables you to explore Uppsala, an attractive and historic university city, but also Sweden’s ecclesiastical centre, housing Scandinavia’s largest cathedral. (B,D) DAY 13-14 A short return train excursion takes us to Stockholm for a guided tour of arguably Scandinavia’s most attractive capital city. After a guided tour, we allow free time to wander the quaint streets of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) before returning to Uppsala. On Day 14 we make the even shorter trip to Arlanda Airport for our flight back to London Heathrow. (Day 13 B,D; Day 14 B) * We would ask you to understand that this adventure takes place in winter in regions around the Arctic Circle, including four nights in a ski resort. There will be walking involved, often on snow and ice. We strongly recommend a good level of mobility. ** For your safety the Inlandsbanan Railway has a thermal boundary of minus 28 degrees. This means that, in the unlikely event that the temperature drops lower than this boundary, a coach may be used to replace the train

Kåbaldis Resort Inlandsbanan has booked ski chalet style accommodation at Kåbaldis for this tour. Each chalet has a double or twin room, plus two very small rooms with bunk beds, a living space, kitchen, wc, shower and sauna. We have decided to accommodate two people per chalet, as we don’t feel bunk bed style accommodation is suitable. This will provide spacious accommodation in a beautiful remote setting. Due to the very high cost of this accommodation, we are sorry that single occupancy of such accommodation would be so expensive that it’s simply not practical to offer it.
